The March meeting of the AIBA Board of Directors took place March 29,2007. Discussion centered around upcoming events including Burque Blooming and the introduction of a new logo at that time. (NOTE: Autumn Gray of the Albuquerque Journal discussed the City of Albuquerque's new moniker - a Q - in Business Outlook on March 29th; this gives further emphasis to the importance of branding.) Work has begun on elements for AIBA's branding, including a brochure, window decal and bumper sticker.
A copy of "Spotlight 'Keep it Querque' Showcases Locally-Owned Businesses" from the New Mexico Business Journal was displayed; access that article online at the following link: http://www.nmbiz.com/07-04Apr/40.htm. Members Bea Doyle of Bhava Yoga Studio and Melinda Rand-Kenefic of Celebro in Nob Hill were featured in the article, written by the Communications Committee.
The Membership Committee continues to focus on locating a member coordinator and a sponsor liasion. Members interested in participating in either of those capacities are encouraged to email info@keepitquerque.org.
President Leila Johnson presented information on CeertifiChecks which could offer an additional benefit to the membership; Leila designed reporting forms for each of the committees, so that directors could prepare in advance for the board meeting. As a result of her organization, a process is now in place and committee work progresses in orderly fashion, leaving additional time for discussion at meetings. Directors touched on topics ranging from a formalized budget to additional advocacy on issues of interest to independents.
Planning for Independents Week begins now. AIBA members interested in serving on the Independents Week committee can email info@keepitquerque.org to get involved.
The next Board of Directors meeting is scheduled for April 26, 2007. Members are encouraged to use the forum to actively communicatte and participate in their organization.
