AIBA Board Acts on Behalf of Membership to Increase Communication, Finalize Organization Status

In its first meeting of the year, the AIBA Board of Directors voted to apply for status as a 501 (c) (6) organization. During 2006, Board members had studied various classification options and had reviewed a legal opinion on the matter written by Board member, Sara Berger of the Small Business Law Center.

Leila Johnson, President, conducted the retreat which included orientation and the first board meeting of the year. All members of the board and its executive director, Rebecca Dakota were present. Sara Berger recently tendered her resignation to focus on her law practice; she had served three terms for the organization.

The board accepted a recommendation from the Communications Committee, headed by Mary Ellen Merrigan that the details of regular meetings are posted to the AIBA member forum. Additional email communications with members will continue throughout the year.

Volunteers sought for specific positions and committees
The Membership Committee, headed by Elissa Breitbard, is in search of a volunteer to provide approximately one hour of data entry work per week. In addition, the organization is in search of a graphic designer who might provide project support throughout the year.

Members with an interest in serving on committees are encouraged to email Rebecca Dakota and Leila Johnson at info@keepitquerque.org.
