Myra Ghattas was featured in NM Biz Weekly article, A side of comfort.
As the article notes, "When Myra Ghattas opened Slate Street Café
in August 2005, she never imagined it would be a quick success. But
after only its second full year in business, the restaurant has
surpassed $1 million in revenues. 'I didn't envision that we'd be doing so well when we started. But
in 2007 we realized it was an obtainable goal, and we started focusing
on it,' Ghattas says."
Our own Executive Director, Rebecca Dakota was interviewed for the article.
"Rebecca Dakota, executive director of the Albuquerque Independent Business Alliance,
points to Slate Street's membership in and hosting of the group's
monthly networking event as a way to drive home the local angle to
customers.
'In general, it's a challenge for a new restaurant to pull people
away from their favorite places. That's where Myra's being experienced
as a small business owner really helps. She's there at the restaurant
in person setting the tone, greeting people by name, creating a
friendly environment that makes a big difference.'
(We have our informal, "come if you can, come as you are" networking the second Weds. of every month in Slate Street's wine loft, from 4:30 to 6:00.)
