Authors and readers suffer during clash of the Titans
A dispute over pricing has led to Amazon making books published by Macmillan unavailable for sale on its website. In a world of huge, conglomerated book publishers and sellers, readers and authors are the causalities of such clashes of the titans. This is a wakeup call for people to turn back to their local, independent book sellers. Despite the rumors, they are not extinct, though they are endangered. Albuquerque is lucky to have more than one. Page One and Bookworks spring to mind.
Local author, Daniel Abraham, whose books are published by Tor, a part of Macmillan, has made this offer on his blog as a result of the current Amazon vs Macmillan conflict.
"Okay, tell your friends. In the wake of what we must, I suppose, call Amazonfail, anyone who buys a copy of one of the Long Price books from a local independent bookseller, drop me a line at dja@danielabraham.com. I'll send you a signed bookplate or something equally fun."
